Dominic Mills is founder of Yuup, a new online marketplace where you can buy and gift experiences in Bristol. Here, he provides his recommendations for the city’s top takeaways, local independent producers offering delivery, and if you’re feeling generous, some inspiration for foodie gifts over lockdown. Over to Dominic...

These past months, it’s been truly inspiring to see how Bristol’s independents have risen to the challenge of these unprecedented times. It’s hard to pick out just a few, but here are some of my top picks for gastronomic delight over lockdown 2.0.

If you’re planning on treating yourself or someone else, Papedeli in Clifton has a multitude of artisan hampers on offer, or you can create your own, to buy online for delivery. From chocolate and cakes, to pasta and spices, they have everything you could possible want to indulge and get your season underway early.

Salt & Malt

What could be better than fish n’ chips? Yuup celebrated its launch last month with a range of Special Edition experiences, one of which was a culinary crawl with top chef Josh Eggleton. Both of his Salt & Malt sites - Wapping Wharf and Chew Valley - will be open and firing on all cylinders for takeaways during the coming weeks.

Ruby & White

Yuup is also working with Ruby & White to offer a number of experiences post lockdown. In the meantime, they’re open and also providing home delivery for their amazing range of produce.

Two Belly

Further up Whiteladies Road you’ll find this amazing shop stocking a vast selection of cheese, beers, ciders and wine, as well as a range of artisan provisions. Two Belly will be open throughout lockdown and delivering goods Wednesday to Saturday to Bristol Bs1 - BS10 postcodes.

The North Street wine bar is offering a range of virtual wine tasting packages. It will also be busy I’m sure throughout lockdown, delivering wine, cheese and charcuterie across the city. A host of new dates are also available on Yuup to book or gift a wine and cheese tasting experience.

Bristol Beer Factory

Bristol Beer factory has a host of gifts available from its shop which will go down very well with any beer connoisseur. Cases of its bottled beer and mini tins of cask beer are available for delivery by courier across the UK or for collection from its North Street Tap Room.

Bristol Cheese Monger

Another stop off on Josh Eggleston’s Culinary Crawl experience on Yuup is The Bristol Cheese Monger in Wapping Wharf. It’s hard to beat if you’re partial to tucking into a cheese board of an evening. They have a vast range of cheeses to buy or gift online with delivery across the city and further afield.

Yuup is a new online marketplace where you can book and gift experiences. Yuup has over 130 experiences to book or gift ranging from creating ceramics in Southville, discovering blood and butchery in Bedminster and learning to cook Thai food in Totterdown. It aims to have 500 experiences live within the next 12 months.

Yuup was developed over the first COVID-19 lockdown and fuelled out of a desire to support small businesses, solopreneurs and creative and innovative people with a passion they want to turn into an income stream. The business’ goal is for over 90% of its experiences to be run by Bristol-based independents and people sharing a skill or a side hustle.
