Belly Laughs At Home is a virtual celebration of Bristol hosted by local comedian Mark Olver. The event takes place online this Sunday, 10 May 2020 at 7pm and is raising money for four local good causes. Mark explains all…

Belly Laughs is a thing I do in January. We raise money for charity by getting people into restaurants at a time when they are often quiet; the food money goes to the restaurants, people pay a little bit extra for the comedy and that goes directly to charity.

Obviously, we can't do that at the moment (we will be back as soon as we can be) but businesses and charities still need you, so we created ‘Belly Laughs at Home’. 100% of the money raised will be split equally between FareShare South West, Julian Trust, Bristol Old Vic and the Great Western Air Ambulance charities.

On Sunday, 10 May, I will be lovely live streaming from my backroom. Loads of my friends have sent in little videos celebrating Bristol and, well, we are going to celebrate!!

Belly Laughs at Home

We are going to eat together and drink together and laugh together - from the comfort and safety of our homes. And you’ll be able to chat to me, tell me your favourite parts of Bristol, our favourite memories and your favourite places to eat and drink.

Talking of which, and considering this is meant to be about food and drink, here’s a list of some of the places offering discounts and deals for supporters of Belly Laughs on Sunday night.

The Cauldron, St. Weburghs

If you’re reading this on a Friday morning, before 9am, you might be able to get a roast. They sell out so quickly and even though they put on an extra 75 to celebrate Belly Laughs those all sold out.

It’s a brilliant Roast though. It’s probably the best in Bristol.

The Curry House, Bath Road, Brislington

Top of my road. Amazing curry. Amazing people who run it.

Every January they tend to ignore the idea of Belly Laughs being there to support local business and they just give the food away for free! They aren’t doing that on Sunday, but if you phone them and say “Hassan is Handsome” and promise to donate to us, you’ll get 15% off your bill. And it is probably the best curry in Bristol you’ve not yet had.

Bakers & Co at Home

These guys are offering DIY pizza kits, meat and cheese boards and a selection of prepared meals and drinks from their range of restaurants. Lovely stuff.

Hart's Bakery

This awesome bakery under the ramp at Temple Meads is a regular Belly Laughs venue in January. For Sunday's gig they put on a special curry meal which sold out in minutes, but they are about to offer a new 'Click and Collect' service which will be worth a look when it is launched.

Miss Millies

These local fried chicken legends are donating 20% of their profit on Sunday night to Belly Laughs. 'Millies' are a Bristol institution with shops all over the city and are offering home delivery.

There are more coming in too; everyone who signs up gets a notification as soon as new offers are released.

Can we talk booze please? Now, I am a teetotaller... I do love a mocktail... But the booze doesn’t work for me. Does the booze work for you? What would you like? Let me get you something.

How about some gin?

Espensen Spirits

We have our very own, official Belly Laughs At Home cocktail thanks to the glorious Espensen Spirit in Redfield. The 'Belly Laughs' contains their delicious Pump up the Jam Raspberry Gin, as well as Harvey's Bristol Cream Sherry, Marmalade, lemon juice and tonic.

Beer? Certainly.

Lost and Grounded

Those wonderful folks have pulled together a special Belly Laughs beer box just for us and will even be donating £5 per sale to Belly Laughs At Home. Be quick though, I've heard that they've nearly sold out.

Or maybe some wine? I can get you some wine…

Kask Wine

This Bedminster wine bar and deli are doing a special Belly Laughs At Home deal on their organic, sustainable wine for Sunday and donating £5 per sale.

It’s been amazing how Bristol businesses are supporting us and how audiences are supporting the charities and the businesses. I still have a show to finish but it’s going to be so much fun including quizzes from John Robins and nonsense from Joe Wilkinson. We have some local history, some songs, and whatever Russell Howard and Jon Richardson come up with. Come and join us on Sunday night, you’ll be very welcome....
