The ghastliest day in the calendar is creeping up on us, but if your Halloween plans still haven’t manifested don’t fear, Bristol has plenty of super scary ways to celebrate.

So, whether you fancy being lost and terrified in a ‘scare maze’ or getting spooked out on a ghostly walking tour, you’ll be in Halloween heaven…or hell!

FEAR at Avon Valley Scream Park

The multi award-winning FEAR at Avon Valley Scream Park returns for limited dates throughout October, with attractions including terrifying scare mazes, fire shows, street performers and funfair rides. If you're brave enough, you can also witness The Exorcism of Evelyn Grace. Please note that this event is for ages 16 and over.  

FEARless at Avon Valley

Created for 11- 15 year olds, FEARless is a toned-down scare event coming to Avon Valley on 28 and 29 October. This family-friendly immersive attraction lets you navigate four scare attractions with no major scares but a few frights along the way. Enjoy epic fire shows, spooky street performers, fairground rides and side stalls.

Woeful Wounds at Brunel’s SS Great Britain 

Experience the magic of special effects and make-up artistry, and discover what passengers used to look like on Brunel's SS Great Britain hundreds of years ago. Artists from the Specialist Make-Up department at SGS College will be onboard the ship to help create fake cuts, blisters and other wounds. This activity is included with admission to the ship, and your ticket is valid for one year after purchase if you want to visit again!

Sea Monsters at Bristol Aquarium

Join Bristol Aquarium from 20 - 31 October for a spooktacular adventure - discover creepy creatures that are hidden beneath the waves and dress up in a spooky costume - if you dare! On the evening of Thursday 26 October the aquarium will be a hosting a family-friendly Halloween event where you'll be tasked with hunting down mythical monsters.

Howl-oween at Bristol Zoo Project 

Follow the spook-tacular Howl-oween trail at Bristol Zoo Project and match x-rays and bones with the correct animals before discovering animal artefacts at the House of Bones, including skulls, skins and more. Head to the witch’s campsite and join in creepy crafts, or listen to a Halloween story. Whilst you’re there, use Bristol Zoo Project's AutumnFest spotter sheet to guide you around the park, and discover a whole host of interactive talks taking place every day.

The Home of Halloween – Wookey Hole

Dive head-first into the enchanting realm of Halloween magic at Wookey Hole. Tour the epic cave system where you can learn about the legend of the witch of Wookey Hole, and hear some of the creepier stories throughout the history of the caves. During October half term, Wookey Hole will have a special Halloween-themed circus show from Magique, plus a Halloween-themed fancy dress competition and a pumpkin trail throughout the grounds and caves.

Get spooky on the Grand Pier

Visit Weston-super-Mare for face painting, scavenger hunts, sweet treats and more at The Haunted Grand Pier. Explore the spooky pumpkin-themed trail and get up close and personal with the Wicked Witch, where you can discover her magical potions and cauldron!

Watch some terrifyingly good improv

Join Bristol Improv Theatre for Murder She Didn’t Fright  from 26-28 October, a spooktacular special edition of the murder mystery improv hit by Edinburgh Fringe sensations, Degrees of Error. Or join the team for Halloween-inspired comedy at the Aaaaaaahntics Joke Show. If you love games, you’ll enjoy Halloween Games Night, a night of gruesome games and chilling challenges will have you and your team howling with laughter as you play together against others.

Watch a scary movie  

The Big Scream is taking over Bristol's huge IMAX screen on 13 and 14 October for a range of Halloween favourites, including Bride of Frankenstein (PG) and The Slumber Party Massacre (18).

As part of Bristol Film Festival’s Halloween programme, many of Bristol’s venues, including Bristol Museum & Art Gallery, Bristol Improv Theatre, St Mary Redcliffe and Avery’s Wine Cellars will be screening scary movies. You can also watch classic horror films in the chilling surrounds of Redcliffe Caves, including The Descent and Don’t Breath.

Mollie’s Motel & Diner will be screening Ghostbusters and Nightmare on Elm Street from Mollie’s American-style, drive-in cinema. Car tickets are £55 for one car and two people and include a soft drink each, a Mollie’s burger (meat or veggie), cheese dog or chicken tenders and house fries per person, as well as a cocktail (or mocktail) from Lockdown Liqour. Extend your stay by booking a room at Mollie's Motel, with prices starting at £70.

Halloween-themed Brunch

Bambalan’s famous drag brunch returns on 28 October with a Halloween theme! The line up is packed with plenty of treats (and a few tricks) – including Halloween games, performances and cabaret. Tickets are £30 and include a welcome drink and brunch, or you can upgrade to a bottomless fizz package for an extra £25.

Flight Club will be running Halloween-themed brunch on 28 and 29 October – where you’ll get a cocktail upon arrival, a bottle of prosecco for each guest, bottomless pizza, plus a game of social darts with your pals.

Horrifying good nights out

Head to cocktail bar The Raven on Friday 27 October for Nevermore – Halloween at The Raven, an evening of immersive horror, cocktails and music. Join Propyard for their Halloween extravaganza on Saturday 28 October, where the venue will be transformed into a supernatural playground of music, mystery and mayhem.

Halloween events for the whole family 

Keep the kids entertained with some spooky fun, from an augmented reality Pumpkin trail in Broadmead, to Ghoul School at Berkeley Castle. Get involved with Halloween-themed colouring and crafts in the Re-Creation Station at Wake The Tiger. 

Join Windmill Hill City Farm and Mr Brown Pig on 20 October for The Darker Side – a story telling workshop. On 25 October, kids can also join in with workshops at Windmill Hill City Farm outdoor kitchen where they can get involved with potato printing Halloween pictures (and more).

You can also head out into the Mendips on a hunt for the ghost of Cheddar Man at Cheddar Gorge & Caves.

Zombie Outbreak at Mendip Activity Centre

Help solve the Zombie Outbreak at Mendip Activity Centre! Learn how to battle the zombies with archery, air rifle, axe throwing or archery active. If you’re brave enough, there's also the option to book a Halloween-themed Tobogganing session.

Special food and drink offers

Coal Kitchen in Cabot Circus are running a limited-editition spooky Halloween menu from 13 - 31 October – including: grisly chicken tenders, boo burgers and petrifying pizzas. Dinky diners can start their day the spooky way by building their own breakfasts from just £3.50 with spooky sausages, monster mushrooms, how-loumi slices and lots more blood-curdling ingredients to tuck into. There’s Halloween-themed colouring in on the menus too.

The Coconut Tree Clifton and Gloucester Road are running a kids eat free deal, with every paying adult from 23 October – 3 November (last booking at 5pm). Menu items include a Cheesy Hopper pancake (a twist on a traditional hopper with melted cheese, cheese and tomato roti pizza, stir fried chickpeas and ice cream. Kids will also be given a spooky wordsearch and scatch cards where they can reveal a Halloween drawing, as well as a crafty kit for Halloween decorations.

After Dark at House of Frankenstein

Set over five floors in a period town house in the centre of Bath, are you brave enough to enter a house of horrors for After Dark at Mary Shelley's House of Frankenstein? Featuring live actors, special effects and disturbing aromascapes, you'll start off in the X-treme basement experience and explore your way through several rooms before encountering a recreation of Frankenstein's monster as Mary Shelley imagined. Steady your nerves afterwards with a cocktail in Bloody Mary's Bar. There's also the option to take on the challenge of their escape rooms as an add-on when you book.

Blood, Blackbeard and Buccaneers Tour

Delve into the less than savoury past of infamous pirate Blackbeard, who new records suggest was born in Bristol and whose brutality was legendary – but how much of the legend is fact? Join Dr Lynch and his team of costumed guides for an exciting blend of haunted tales, theatrics, historical research and find out more about reports of paranormal events across the city. This tour is family friendly.

St Nicholas Market Air Raid Shelter Walking tour

Learn about the ghost that lives beneath the streets of Bristol's Old City as well as the history of the vibrant St Nicholas Market. Travel through the eras of the Trans Atlantic Slave trade, the Bristol Blitz and swinging '60s, plus a behind-the-scenes tour of the market, complete with subterranean passageways and a preserved WW2 air raid shelter.
